Objectives and challenges

Problem statement

The logistics sector of the company was facing several challenges such as inefficient route planning, lack of real-time tracking, and inadequate analysis of logistical data. These challenges lead to increased operational costs, delayed deliveries, and a decline in customer satisfaction.

It's problematic to present a UX/UI projects in the mobile view. Please use a computer or a tablet to view details of the project

Possible Solution

Efficiency Improvement: Streamline route planning to minimize delivery times and fuel consumption.

Real-Time Monitoring: Enable real-time tracking of vehicles to ensure timely deliveries.

Data Analysis: Utilize logistics data to make informed decisions and continuously improve the system.

My role

I was reponsible for research and discovery, lo-fi and hi-fi design

Tools and technologies

Invision Studio, Framer, Adobe XD, Angular

Based on the interviews and available data, I have created personas for the project

User personas

One of the most important part was to define user tasks as it determined the features

User Tasks

Emma, the Logistics Manager

Primary Tasks:

Planning and Customizing Routes.

Analyzing Logistics Data for Optimization.

Monitoring Real-Time Vehicle Locations and Statuses.

Responsibilities:

Strategically plan routes to optimize delivery times and costs.

Analyze performance reports to improve logistics operations.

Oversee the entire fleet and ensure timely deliveries.

Alex, the Driver

Primary Tasks:

Following Set and Modified Routes.

Communicating with Logistics Staff.

Providing Feedback on Routes and Vehicle Performance

Responsibilities:

Adhere to the planned routes and follow real-time modifications.

Report any issues or deviations immediately.

Give feedback on road conditions and route efficiency

Sarah the Dispatcher

Primary Tasks:

Monitoring Real-Time Vehicle Locations and Statuses.

Dynamic Modifications of Routes.

Communicating with Drivers and Other Logistics Staff.

Responsibilities:

Keep track of all vehicles and their statuses.

Respond quickly to changes, rerouting vehicles as needed.

Act as the communication hub, coordinating between drivers and managers.

Using all the knowledge I have gathered, I proposed a design hypothesis and a solution

Design Hypothesis

Intuitive UI Simplifies Complex Logistics Tasks

Hypothesis:

An intuitive user interface will reduce the time and effort required to manage logistics tasks, leading to increased efficiency.

Details:

*Customizable dashboards will help users prioritize information.

*Simplified navigation will reduce the learning curve for new users.

*Clear visual cues will guide users to important features and reduce errors.

Real-Time Data Visualization Enhances Decision-Making

Hypothesis:

Presenting data in a real-time, visual format will aid users in making quicker and more informed decisions.

Details:

*Interactive maps with live tracking will provide immediate insight into fleet locations.

*Graphs and charts displaying logistics metrics will help identify trends and issues.

*Color-coded alerts and notifications will draw attention to urgent matters.

Seamless Communication Bridges Gaps Between Stakeholders

Hypothesis:

Integrated communication tools within the app will improve coordination and information flow between different logistics stakeholders.

Details:

*In-app messaging and announcement features will facilitate real-time communication.

*Shared dashboards and reports will ensure everyone has access to the same information.

*The ability to provide feedback within the app will encourage continuous improvement.

Customizable Alerts and Notifications Increase Responsiveness

Hypothesis:

Allowing users to customize alerts and notifications will enable them to respond more effectively to changes in logistics operations.

Details:

*Users can set alerts for specific events, such as route deviations or delays.

*Customizable notification preferences will ensure users are not overwhelmed by irrelevant information.

*Immediate notifications on mobile devices will enable quick response, even when away from the desk.

Data-Driven Insights Lead to Continuous Improvement

Hypothesis:

Providing users with data-driven insights will enable continuous improvement in logistics management.

Details:

*Analytics tools will help users identify inefficiencies in routes and operations.

*Reporting on key performance indicators will track progress over time.

*Suggestions for improvements based on historical data will be provided.

Using all the knowledge I have gathered, I proposed a design hypothesis and a solution

Proposed Solution

Benefits:

Ensures that critical information is promptly communicated. Allows users to stay informed without being overwhelmed by unnecessary notifications.

With the use of card sorting, I have managed to discover the most effective information architecture for the app

Information Architecture

Management's decision was to utilize Material Design as a base for the front-end (I was not involved in that decision <wink>)

Designs

Landing page. I have redesigned the landing page which is crucial for proper navigation within the complex system. Instead of putting all the items of the information architecture into one unprioritized set of items, I have distinguished those of importance and placed them on the right-hand side of the view for better discoveribility

In the Lane Details, it was my ideas to allow power users, to update several lanes at once.

I have prepared user testing scenarios and I was involved in the testing procedure and as a moderater and in some cases as an observer

Usability Testing

Feedback:

The majority of users expressed high overall satisfaction with the app's capabilities and user experience.

Observations:

Common suggestions included more advanced analytics features for logistics managers and enhanced notification customization.
